Frequently Asked Questions

TokenSignal shows no data. What's wrong?
TokenSignal reads session logs from ~/.claude/projects/. If this directory doesn't exist or is empty, the app will show zero data. Make sure you have Claude Code installed and have run at least one session. If you have sessions but still see no data, check that the app has been granted file system access in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
macOS says TokenSignal is from an unidentified developer.
TokenSignal is notarized by Apple under Developer ID but distributed directly rather than through the Mac App Store. On first launch, right-click (or Control-click) the app and select Open, then confirm you want to open it. This only needs to be done once.
My token counts look wrong or incomplete.
Token counts are computed directly from the JSONL files Claude Code writes to ~/.claude/projects/. If a session was interrupted or the log file is malformed, some records may be incomplete. TokenSignal skips unreadable records rather than crashing. If you believe the counts are systematically wrong, please contact us with your macOS version and a description of what you're seeing.
Cost estimates don't match what Anthropic billed me.
TokenSignal's cost estimates are calculated using published Anthropic pricing at the time of the app's release and are for informational purposes only. Actual billing may differ due to plan discounts, pricing changes, prompt caching behavior, or other factors. Always refer to your Anthropic account dashboard for authoritative billing information.
Does TokenSignal send any data off my machine?
No. TokenSignal makes no network requests and sends nothing to Morton Software Group or any third party. All processing happens locally on your device. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I uninstall TokenSignal?
Quit the app from the menu bar (click the icon → Quit), then drag TokenSignal.app from your Applications folder to the Trash. The app does not write preference files or support data to any locations beyond standard macOS app containers.
Will there be updates?
Yes. TokenSignal v1.1 is planned and will include CSV export, PDF session summaries, and a weekly usage digest. Updates will be posted at mortonsoftwaregroup.com/token-signal/. Since this is direct distribution, you'll need to download updates manually.
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Use the contact form at mortonsoftwaregroup.com/contact/ with "TokenSignal Bug" in the subject. Include your macOS version, a description of what happened, and steps to reproduce if possible. Console logs from the time of the issue are extremely helpful.
